One week to go!!! We are getting really excited, and can’t wait to see everyone. Just in case, here is a map and address for the Rancho Guajome Adobe (click on image to view map on Google maps).

Directions:
From the north: Take I-5 south, exit east on Mission Avenue/State Highway 76. Go straight, then make a right at N. Santa Fe Ave. The adobe will be on your right.

From the south/west: Take I-5 north to Highway 78 exit. Go east on Highway 78 to Melrose Drive, make a left and go north to N. Santa Fe Ave. Go right (east) on N. Santa Fe Ave. The adobe will be on your right.

From the east: Take I-15 north or south and exit on State Highway 78 west. Exit at Vista Village Drive and make a left on N. Santa Fe Ave. Head north for two miles and the adobe will be on your left.

El Triunfo

Last week we passed through the pueblo of El Triunfo on our way to La Paz. In the mid 19th century, El Triunfo was a busy silver mining town. The remnants of those days are still readily available…just off the road as you pass through. Read a little more about it here. A couple of photographs:

Just about one month to go

Well, we have 32 days to go before the wedding, if I can still count right. We are still down here in Baja, and my summer research project is coming along pretty well. A lot of driving around on dirt roads and finding people to meet and talk to. The weather cooled off for about two weeks, but now the heat is back in full force. There was a small tropical storm south of us, and I was hoping that it might bring some cooler weather and breezes–but not much luck there. Last night was one of the hottest in a while, but maybe that’s because I got too much sun in the last few days! Last week we drove up to La Paz to talk with my adviser at the University Autónoma de Baja California Sur (UABCS), and we stopped in the pueblos of San Bartolo, San Antionio, and El Triunfo along the way. El Triunfo is an old mining town, and much of the remains of that historic past are still there–a historical archaeologist’s dream. If you need mangoes, San Bartolo has plenty, thanks in part to all of the spring water the community has. Very green around there. Tomorrow we are heading back into San Jose, so we’ll drive along the long bumpy east cape road one more time.
